A boat ride of 25 minutes off Diglipur gets you to the serene twin islands called Ross and Smith Island. These islands are connected by a path formed of white sand. The beaches here promise uncluttered vistas and soft waves sweep up along the shore.
Ross and Smith Island are twin islands, joined by a sand bar that is visible during low tide. The sand bar in the form of the crescent is the main attraction of the place.These islands are the crown jewels of the North Andaman.The beach is rarely crowded and many times tourists find the whole island to themselves alone.Ross and Smith Islands cannot be visited without prior permission from the forest office at Diglipur. Permission cost is chargeable and can be obtained on all days except Sunday.
How To Reach
This twin island can be visited from Diglipur, but there is no public boats are available here. You can hire a dongie or a boat, which will cost Rs.1000 at maximum.
Where To Stay
Smith Island has small huts along the beach where you can take rest. Changing rooms and showers are available for use free of cost.You have to bring your own lunch because there is no option of restaurant or hotel in Ross and Smith Island.
Sightseeing And Activities
There is a marine sanctuary on the island, which makes it an ideal place for spotting beautiful coral reefs, colourful species from the underwater.These islands are home to the Olive Ridley Turtles, one can even witness the turtle nesting.
What To Do
Turquoise blue water around this island is the best site for swimming and snorkelling.( No snorkelling equipment is available on the island, so carry your masks, flippers, snorkels and towel with you.) The beach is surrounded by tropical forest and is a preferred place for trekking.
