Great Nicobar Island

The Great Nicobar Island is the only island in Andaman and Nicobar, which has perennial rivers- the Galathea, Alexandria and Doyma. The northern half of the Great Nicobar Island has hills and mountain ranges while the rest of the island is fairly flat. The island also houses the biosphere reserve area.

The great Nicobar Island is the Southern-most island of Andaman and Nicobar archipelago and is also the southernmost part of India.The island is home to the indigenous people.This place is open for only Indian Citizens. This island provides shelter to many endemic plants, animals and birds.

How To Reach

This place is 540 km by sea from Port Blair, you can reach there by boat. If you opt for the boat services from Port Blair, you get to witness many other attractions along the way like Little Nicobar, Car Nicobar the northern most Nicobar group island. Getting to great Nicobar is easy with frequent service of helicopter from Port Blair.

Where To Stay

There are no private hotels, resorts, or lodges available on Great Nicobar Island. Visitors planning to stay overnight must book a government rest house in advance. Alternatively, travelers can choose to stay in Port Blair or on nearby islands, which offer a range of accommodations to suit different budgets.

Sightseeing And Activities

Campbell Bay National park is the most famous place visited by tourist at the Great Nicobar Island.

Tillanchong Island–  has been declared as a wildlife sanctuary. This is the home to a number of animals and birds species. Nicobar scrubfowl, saltwater crocodiles, giant leatherback sea turtle, giant robber crab and reticulated python are the major attraction of wildlife in Nicobar Island. There are also some other important species found in the Nicobar Island are water monitor lizard, Nicobar pigeon, fruit bat, Nicobar serpent eagle etc.

Indira Point–  it is explored by numerous tourists every year. The Indira Point is famous for its sky scarpering lighthouse. The lighthouse is painted in red and white strips, thereby providing a fascinating look to the lighthouse. It is so beautiful that it creates a spell on its visitors. The view of sunset from the southernmost point of India is worth seeing.
